The Forté Application Environment provides on
object-oriented multi-tier development environment designed for
producing scaleable enterprise applications. Applications are
built as a monolithic system, and then partitioned onto various
platforms to distribute processing to the proper system, provide
load balancing, or to utilize platform specific features.
The Forté Application Environment currently uses
its own language, called TOOL. The next major release will
also support Java as its development language in addition to TOOL.
A Java only development system is now available as Forte For Java
(formerly called SynerJ).
Forté runs on a variety of platforms including
Windows 95, Windows NT, Macintosh, HP-UX, Solaris, DG/UX, AIX
DYNIX, OpenVMS, Digital Unix, and OS/390. Databases supported
include Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Open Ingress, MS Acess, ODBC,
DB2, and RDB. External interfaces provided include Apple
Events, DCE, ObjectBroker, ActiveX, OLE, Java, OrbixWeb, and
